Основнаячасть:

At first, I would like you to guess the theme of our lesson today. You can watch a short video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCQMlyXMRJE I think it helps you to guess. What is the name of this film? Do you know the author of this tragedy? Yes, you are right. The author of this tragedy is William Shakespeare. As you understood the theme of our lesson is “William Shakespeare”, his biography and work.

1. Вступительноесловоучителя

Teacher: It is impossible to speak about the English literature without speaking about William Shakespeare. He was the man who had the largest and the most comprehensive soul. People all over the world can’t help admiring his great talent.

William Shakespeare… The brilliant poet, the marvelous dramatist, the greatest of the great. He was not of an age, but for all time.

2. Сообщения учащихся о жизни и творчестве Шекспира

David Dz:On April 23, 1564 a son, William, was born to John and Mary Shakespeare in Stratford-upon-Avon. It was a small English town. The year of his birth was one of terror in Stratford, for the plague spread everywhere. But, fortunately for mankind, the plague spared the house of the Shakespeares. His mother was the daughter of a farmer. His father was a wool-dealer and a glover. He wanted his son to be an educated person and William went to a grammar school in Stratford and had quite a goodeducation. He knew several languages: Latin, Greek, French, Italian. There he learned to love reading. When the boy studied at school he had no free time. When he had a rest William liked to go to the forest and to the river Avon.

Veronica: While still a teenager, William married Anne Hathaway, a farmer's daughter some years older than himself. Whether Anne was beautiful in reality we don`t know; but she was to be our Shakespeare`s wife, and so she is of interest for all ages. We don't know how he earned his living during these early years, perhaps he helped his father in the family business. During these years his three children were born: Susannah [su:'zaena], the eldest, then twins — a son, Hamnet (not Hamlet ['hamlit]) and another girl, Judith.

George B:Will married Anne Hathaway in November, and she came to live in Henley ['henli] Street. John Shakespeare was pleased that his oldest son was married, but I don't think Will's mother wanted him to marry so young: Will was only eighteen.

Milana:At that time actors and actresses visited Stratford-on-Avon. William liked to watch them. He was fond of their profession and he decided to become an actor. He went to London. There he became an actor. He began to write plays too. Shakespeare was both an actor and a playwright. In his works Shakespeare described important and dramatic events of life. His plays were staged in many theatres, translated into many languages and they made Shakespeare a very popular man.

You have already known that Shakespeare wrote a lot of plays and one of them is “Macbeth”. Watch this story, and find out what do the witches tell Macbeth about his future

Where did he go in 1587?

Ilana: In 1587 Shakespeare went to work in London, leaving Anne and the children at home. We don't know exactly why he did it. Some people say that the reason was his love of poetry and theatre. But there is another story which says that he had to run away from law because he killed some deer belonging to a rich man.

What did he do in London?

Alika:In London Shakespeare began to act and to write plays and soon became an important member of a well-known acting company. Most of his plays were performed in the new Globe Theatre built on the bank of the River Thames. Shakespeare wrote on an average a play every six months for nearly twenty years.

Do we know all the facts about Shakespeare?

Renata:We don`t know a lot of facts of Shakespeare`s life. We can only guess what kind of man he was, that`s why there are many legends about his life. In 1613 he stopped writing and went to live in Stratford where he died in 1616. But his plays are popular now and millions of people admire them. Four hundred years later his plays are still acted-not only in England but in the whole world.

William Shakespeare is known for his plays, but he also wrote 154 sonnets.

Reading.

Let’s read the text and do the task after it.

In the early morning Romeo went to see Friar Lawrence, an old man, who could marry him to Juliet. Friar Lawrence was a friend of the Capulets and of the Montagues. He thought that a marriage between Romeo and Juliet could end the old quarrel, so he decided to marry them.

The next day Romeo and Juliet came to Friar Lawrence and he married them. Juliet went home to wait for her young husband, Romeo, who promised to come at night into the Capulets garden and meet Juliet there.

Romeo went into the town and met his friend Mercutio. In one of the streets they saw Tybalt with a group of Capulets. Romeo did not want to fight with Tybalt, the cousin of his Juliet, but Tybalt attacked Mercutio and killed him. Soon Tybalt was killed too.

This fight in the street in the middle of the day was seen by many people. Old Capulet and Montague ran there with their wives. The prince of Verona also came there. He asked the people about the fight and decided that Romeo must be punished. Romeo had to leave Verona and go to some other town.

This was a terrible thing for Romeo and Juliet. They were very unhappy and did not know what to do. Romeo went for help to Friar Lawrence who told him to leave Verona. Friar Lawrence promised to send Romeo a letter when the quarrel between the families ended.

As we have already said, Shakespeare’s works have been translated to many languages .And I am very glad to tell you that Ossetian language isn’t an exception. You can read almost all the plays and sonnets in Ossetian. Moreover, a lot of plays were performed on our stage. And now I would like you to watch “Othello”.The main character is performed by Vladimir Tchapsaev. On the Shakespeare’s motherland this play was highly appreciated.

(ТЕКСТЫДЛЯДОМАШНЕГОЗАДАНИЯ)

Some days passed and Juliet’s father called his daughter to him and told her that she must marry a young man whose name was Paris. Juliet did not know what to do. She was afraid to tell her father about her marriage to Romeo. She told him that she was too young to marry, but old Capulet got very angry and did not want to listen to her. Then Juliet went to Friar Lawrence for help.

He listened to the girl and then told her to go home and be ready to marry Paris. But the night before her marriage she must drink some medicine from a little bottle which the friar gave her. “This medicine will put you to sleep for forty two hours”, said the friar. Juliet went home and did as the friar told her.

When her mother came into the room, Juliet lay on her bed. She was unconscious. The mother thought that Juliet was dead. The parents cried very much, then they put Juliet into the family tomb.

Romeo did not get Friar Lawrence’s letter, but he heard that Juliet was dead and he was very unhappy. He bought some poison and came back to Verona. He went to the tomb of the Capulets where Juliet lay and found Paris there. Romeo fought with him and killed the young man. Then he looked at Juliet for a long time, kissed her on the lips and drank the poison. He fell down at Juliet’s feet.

At this moment Juliet woke up and saw Romeo. But the young man was dead. Juliet took a dagger that was on the floor and killed herself.
